Conference Recap from the President & CEO of Benovate
Healthcare is a $3 trillion industry (YES – that is Trillion) and for the past 30 years, there have been many efforts to identify new methods, changes, and innovations that would impact the year over year trend of increases to all of us. The Healthcare Revolution conference aimed to be a gathering of the world’s most innovative change agents that aren’t afraid to speak truth to power on what drives our healthcare spending and the impact to individuals health.
Whether it is lack of transparency in costs and data, measuring the value of services and providers, measuring outcomes, or the ability to engage individuals to do the right thing at the right time, conference speakers, attendees, and exhibitors were engaging in the conversations and ideas needed to shift the market to a more sustainable track. As a professional that has been working in the industry for more years than I care to count, it is invigorating to meet and discuss with other leaders tangible, grounded, and impactful ideas on what can move the needle.
The highest energy came from some unexpected sources. L.L. Bean, a well-known retailer of outdoor apparel, has been innovating since the early 1980s on employee wellness, data gathering, and relevant programming for their diverse population of employees. They have made their commitment to employee all around well-being a central core of the company culture and execution of their benefits programs. Rather than just piecing together different ideas, they measure every aspect of their employees needs, risks, costs, and areas of interest to craft the programs that are most relevant to their organization. By tracking the data year over year over year, they are able to see trends and adapt their services to address underlying risks and costs. They demonstrated a core foundation of what it means to develop, execute, and achieve a successful well-being and engagement program that can deliver tangible results for the employee as well as the company. By sharing their story and how they attack this day in and day out was an inspiration to many at the conference.
